Turquoise, an opaque blue to green mineral, has been known and used from ancient times. Ancient Egyptians, Aztecs, Persians and Chinese among other ancient civilizations used turquoise mainly in jewelry, ceremonial objects and amulets.

The name turquoise derives from the French word "Turques", as it was first in Turkey that all quantities of Iranian turquoise were imported and bought.

Turquoise is considered to be and is used as a strong protective and healing stone for thousands of years. It was believed that turquoise changes color -from blue to green- to warn about a certain disaster.
