Hematite - History and Properties

The word hematite (also spelled as aimatite or haematite) derives from the Greek word “aima” (blood) because of the colour of its powder.

In ancient times it was believed that hematite was formed in battleground areas, from soldiers’ lost blood during battles.

Hematite was used from ancient times  in seals, as pigment in its powder form, or as healing and protective stones considered to bring peace and security among its other uses.

Hematite is a mineral, consisting of a high iron percentage, found in abundance in many areas worldwide. Usually it is silver-like, heavy and opaque and looks quite like a metal.

Healing Properties - Metaphysical

Hematite is very effective for grounding and protection. It dissolves negative energy, bringing inner peace, clarity, balance and harmony, while it contributes to the creation of peaceful and loving relationships.

It stimulates self-estimation and ability for survival, while it increases personal magnetism.

Healing Properties - Physical

Hematite improves our resistance to stress and anxiety, while it cures insomnia. It also enhances memory, and is considered as a stone useful for the study of mathematics and technical issues.

Hematite has a strong connection with blood. It strengthens and regulates the circulatory system and it’s considered to be beneficial in anemia and for the kidneys during the blood cleaning procedure, as it stimulates the absorption of iron and the creation of red blood cells.

Hematite also helps in  fighting against venereal diseases.

Hematite is associated with the Base chakra.
